Reflecting its ongoing commitment to the people and community it serves, Sohar International announced the successful completion of the first phase of its initiative to renovate houses of 100 families in the Governorate of Al Batinah (North) having completed the renovation of 42 houses in the Wilayat of Khabourah. The governorate was the worst affected by Cyclone Shaheen, which hit the Sultanate last year. Initiating the second phase that kicked off recently in presence of a number of officials from the governorate and members of the executive management of the bank, Sohar International targets yet more affected families in the Wilayat of Suwaiq
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ahmed Al Musalmi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar International said, “Sohar International has always been a socially responsible financial institution that has been invested in the development of the local community and its people. Cyclone Shaheen came at a time when a lot of people were already coping with the effects of the pandemic. At Sohar International, we, therefore, took a comprehensive approach to help alleviate the plight of those affected. Our efforts went beyond committing financial assistance as we committed to renovate houses of more than 100 families in Al Batinah North. We are confident that our efforts will give a huge impetus to restoring the community and building back the lives of the people.”
In rapid response to the impacts of Cyclone Shaheen, Sohar International has allocated RO 5 million providing interest free loans and deferment options on debt repayments to support impacted customers rebuild.
