Promoting the spirit of ‘Winning’ and brining positive socioeconomic change by reflecting Oman as an international sporting destination, Sohar International sponsored the MENA Karting Nations Cup 2022. Organized by the Oman Automobile Association (OAA), the 3rd edition of MENA Karting Nations Cup 2022 witnessed participation of 140 drivers from 16 countries within the MENA region. The competition concluded with Oman’s karting team ranking in first place within the category of DD2 Master.
Held at the Muscat Speedway Circuit in OAA, the 2-day MENA Karting Championship Nations Cup 2022 kicked off on 16 December 2022 with the presence of Brigadiar (retd) Salim Ali Al Maskari, Chairman of Oman Automobile Association, where Sohar International’s Chief Operations Officer Mr. Hamood Al Sawai conducted the draw to identify the starting positions of all participants. Day 2 concluded the races and witnessed a closing ceremony which was held under the patronage of Brigadier General Mohammed bin Awad Al Rawas, Director General of Traffic, and witnessed the presence of Mr. Khalil Salim Al Hedaifi, Chief Retail Banking Officer, Sohar International.

The MENA Karting Nations Cup 2022 is a major karting series for professional, young and upcoming drivers under the International Automobile Federation - the world body for motorsports. The MENA drivers in all categories contributed to their ‘Nations Cup’ or country ranking points based on their performance. With talented racers from Oman competing against defending champions from different countries, the event gave a huge impetus to promote motorsports within the country.
Hosting the third edition of the MENA Karting Nations Cup 2022 within the Sultanate is indeed commendable and a matter of great pride for the country as it demonstrates the ability to host regional events of this scale and reflect the country across borders.
