Sohar International recently served as silver sponsors for the second edition of the Oman Human Resource Forum. The sponsorship comes in line with the bank’s efforts to promote knowledge sharing platforms as a means towards the development of better practices and standards in various fields including people development. Organised by Al Roya Publishing House, the forum was held under the auspices of His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Omar bin Said Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service, and carried the theme of “Productivity … Responsibilities and Procedures” focusing on the state of human resource laws and regulations in Oman.

Mr Ahmed Al Musalmi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar International elaborated on the bank’s participation as a medium to help debate common challenges and opportunities as well as to promote experience and information exchange within a highly competitive market. Mr Ahmed Al Musalmi said, “With our new vision set firm for the next five years and beyond, we aim to play a pivotal role in Oman’s economic development and become advocates of winning, a direction which mandates a strong focus on people development. Supporting such forums takes us one step forward into that direction, as they provide an optimal platform for HR professionals and decision makers to meet, discuss and share latest trends and strategies that help improve stakeholder satisfaction and enhance return on HR investment. ”

During the event, Mr Mutheer Al Kalbani, Head of the Learning Center & Organizational Development at Sohar International, represented the bank and received a token of appreciation for the bank’s support to the event. The forum saw four key themes covered in presentations entitled ‘Productivity, Procedures and Indicators’; ‘Success Stories within Productivity Enhancements’; ‘The Role of Human Resources in Enhancing Productivity’; and ‘Possible Legislation to Enhance Productivity’. The forum was also accompanied by a training workshop for entrepreneurs on “Productivity Activation Tools and Methods of Measuring Performance”.

Alongside its support to the Oman HR Forum, Sohar International remains steadfast to bringing the best HR practises and promote development of the national workforce. This commitment to Omanisation has resulted in a notable milestone of over 93% Omanis working within the organization by end of 2018. In its drive for service excellence and help customers win, Sohar International partnered with Harvard Business Publishing and initiated ‘Erteqa'a Plus’, a participant-centred six-month management skills development programme for over 100 of the bank’s staff, to boost the effectiveness of the bank’s future managers.

Furthering its commitment to developing Omani workforce in general and youth in specific, Sohar International had launched important initiatives such as ‘Tomohi - Enhancing Omani Youth Skills Program’, a one-year internship program, enabling young Omani graduates to unlock their potentials, build their skills and enhance their employability.
