Under the agenda of Sohar Al Atta’s CSR annual convoy, Bank Sohar has extended support to the Special Olympics Oman as part of its vision to support community associations that champion the cause of empowering and helping individuals with different abilities in overcoming challenges and investing in their unique abilities to positively contribute to the society.
Mr. Ahmed Al Musalmi, CEO of Bank Sohar, commented, “Bank Sohar is proud of the past achievements of Special Olympics Oman and honored to support its members and their passion to practice sports and represent the Sultanate in regional and international events. Empowerment and sustainable investment into the community very much characterize our CSR ethos at Bank Sohar, and by contributing to the continued success of the disabled as a valued segment of society, we indirectly contribute to the growth of Oman.”
Mr. Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi, Senior AGM and Head of Marketing and Customer Experience at Bank Sohar, delivered a support cheque during his visit to the Special Olympics Oman head office , and was received by Mr. Mohamed Saif Al Rubaiy Deputy Chairman of Special Olympics Oman.
Mr. Mohamed Saif Al Rubaiy, said, “Bank Sohar is aiding Special Olympics to provide great opportunities to showcase the potential and talent of people with intellectual disabilities, notably their ability to contribute to society and have a profound impact on our lives. Special Olympics is striving to establish specialized centers for improving the behavioral abilities, and the support of organizations such as Bank Sohar positively drive our agenda achieve that and to help our members develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, participate in regional sporting events, as well as sharing gifts, skills, and friendship”.
For his part, Mr. Mazin Al Raisi stated “We cannot help but admire the excellence being achieved by members of Special Olympics Oman. It is a matter of national pride to excel in sports locally or represent the nation abroad. Bank Sohar is supporting in admiration, helping to empower this important segment of society by investing in their training and fitness program as they continue to develop skills as active members of local communities, as well as aspiring participants of future sporting events”.
Bank Sohar has a legacy of supporting differently-abled communities across Oman through its CSR program ‘Sohar Al Atta’, focusing on both physical and psychological impairments. Over the years, Bank Sohar has supported over 30 organisations numerous times around the Sultanate including for example Al Noor Association for the Blind, the Association of Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities, Dar Al Atta, Oman Association for Elderly Friends, Oman Cancer Association, Oman Association for the Disabled, and various centers for the autistic. The bank’s CSR programme remains in full drive throughout the year, empowering and engaging a diverse range of communities in meaningful contributions to society.
Special Olympics is a global movement that operates in more than 170 countries and aims to create a new world of inclusion and community, where individuals are accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability. In 2010, Special Olympics Oman was established by a ministerial decree from the Ministry of Social Development with plans to integrate people with intellectual disabilities into society. Through its programmes, they help develop the behavioural, physical, and professional skillsets of members. Its mandate is centered on raising awareness on the needs of people with intellectual disabilities.
